About This 1850 Second Empire In Kingston New York

EXTRAORDINARY 1850 Victorian on the most coveted street in Uptown Kingston! This sensational designer sanctuary is exquisite and luxurious, combining an impeccable tastemakers dream with rich historic details and modern amenities. A gracious 4,464 sqft, exceptionally maintained, turn-key 5 bedroom, 3 bath home has four unique living levels, two kitchens, six fireplaces, original Italianate marble fireplaces, finished basement apartment, and a fully insulated attic playroom.

The enormous garden is a fanciful entertainment haven. Stunning details throughout the home include large light filled rooms, high ceilings, original plaster walls, Greek revival moldings, hand carved wood railings, wainscoting, and posts throughout, a huge stained glass window and newly sanded and oiled original wide quartersawn oak floors. These details blend seamlessly with the modern lighting fixtures, radiant heat floors, and free-standing Jotul gas burning stove.

The updated bathrooms include a jacuzzi tub and open showers. Entertain in the magnificent chef’s kitchen in a new cedar-sided addition overlooking the heavenly garden and outdoor entertaining area. New appliances, a Blue Star Chef’s stove, center around a long slate prep and dining island. French doors from the kitchen lead to a new blue stone patio, a gracious fully fenced quiet garden sanctuary complete with a free-standing sauna house, swimming pond, studio, in-ground trampoline, cedar outdoor shower, and cedar built-in banquet surrounding a bonfire. A bonus outdoor area, a courtyard made using original Kingston Brick, could serve as another dining area or space to store a motorcycle or vintage car for local touring.

Additional set of stairs from kitchen lead to the master suite, also overlooking the garden and pond with an open layout to a modern master bathroom. Additional spaces include a 1,088 sq ft basement apartment with modern kitchen, polished concrete floors, and open layout, fireplace, and modern full bath, and offering it’s very own entrance, making a great income potential to be rented as an apartment.

The top floor is also a fully insulated space with an open floor plan, curved pine walls, a vintage Jotul free standing wood stove, projection screen, monkey bars, and surrounded by windows allowing lots of natural light to stream in. You won’t believe you’re right in Uptown Kingston, walking distance to the farmers market and award winning restaurants. 1. Ick! Why did they put such modern finishes in a period house? And it’s so spare and monastic. Not a welcoming spot in the whole place. One wonders if they are the same? Uninteresting and cold.

  2. This one is a little strange to me. I like the front outside and the stairs and original ceiling beams and floors inside but the kitchen and the new extension as well as the backyard seem unkempt, somewhat chaotic and although private less than inviting.

  3. Who ran off with the chandelier in the music room above the grand piano? The interior of this home is too modernized/updated for my taste. This house does not feel like a Second Empire on the interior at all.

  4. Awesome! Love the attic for an art and craft area. The basement is huge. I think it has something for everyone. So many possibilities.

  5. I do love the outside of the house but unfortunately, that’s where it ends for me…. Way to modernized for my liking.

Let me know what you think about this old house!
