About This 1895 Sells Mansion For Sale In Columbus Ohio

The historic Sells Mansion that was built in 1895 by circus magnate, Peter Sells is now available. Peter Sells, a partner in the Sells Brothers Circus, hired prominent Columbus architect Frank Packard to design the house for Sells’ wife, Mary.

Frank Packard came up with a one-of-a-kind stew of Gothic, Tudor, Chateauesque, Romanesque and mission styles, spiced with plenty of individual touches, such as pointed brick details mimicking the fringe of a circus tent.

Frank Packard is responsible for designing numerous Columbus landmarks such as the Governor’s Mansion, the old Columbus Country Club and the Jeffrey Mansion. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own the Circus House is now, allowing its’ new owners to put their own stamp on this historic landmark. ** Agents please read A2A Remarks**

  1. If you can look past the homage to the circus era decorating this is a pretty nice place. I like the chairs in the foyer, the enormous mud room, and brick patio as well as having a pool that size. The rooms are large which is nice, but the decorating (for me) leaves something to be desired.

    • I think the updated decor fit this house really well for the most part. It is all a matter of personal taste.

  2. I expect the decore in this house isn’t for everyone, or even for me. However, I love the exuberance and fanciful design the owners imbued in this house. For a young family it makes the home happy and livable. Cuddos. Even a person like me (at sixty-five) more split oak midwestern period furniture would seem so repressive and up-tight. Congratulations for loosening your corset and letting your freak flag wave.

  3. I like what Robert Bland said about the house. It’s really different. It was specific to the owners and the updates were consistent with the original decorating. Kudos to the people who did the updates.

Let me know what you think about this old house!
