About This 1915 Mansion In Montgomery Alabama

Once in a life time chance to own this GRAND DAME! Built at the turn of the last century, no detail was left to the imagination. Soaring ceilings with copious amounts of mouldings throughout this fantastic home, gorgeous metal work on entrance doors and porch balustrades are just some of the amazing details this stately home offers.

As you enter this magnificent structure the grand entry opens to a fantastic foyer and the magnificent double staircase. One can imagine ladies of old making a grand entrance coming down to greet suitors. Elegance abounds in the formal rooms most with original chandeliers, all with original hardwood flooring and fireplaces with wonderfully detailed over mantles. The ballroom sized living room boasts two of the aforementioned fireplaces and spans almost the entire depth of the house.

Across the foyer, the music room offers magnificent morning light and mouldings around the windows that must be seen to be believed! Just beyond is the formal dining room with painted paneled walls, an imported Italian fireplace mantle and a fantastic crystal and brass chandelier to create the mood! The darling breakfast room complete with built-in china cabinet is next and is flanked by the butlers pantry on one side and the elevator room on the other. Though it is not working currently, the elevator can be operational again. It makes quick work of getting visitors’ luggage and such up to their rooms!

On the other side of the butler’s pantry is the kitchen offering a large work island/breakfast bar in the middle and a glorious copper hood over the Jenn Aire cooktop. The kitchen also offers a desk area to keep everyone organized, two ovens to help feed everyone and separate refrigerator and freezer to hold it all. Upstairs you will find four very large bedrooms each with its own bathroom. The main bedroom offers an additional area that could be used for study or would make a wonderful closet/sitting room–the possibilities are endless!

  1. Majestic Splendor!! Beautiful staircase!! Easily visualize Talula Bankhead or Gloria Swanson drifting down those stairs. Would history remember a visiting young writer named F. Scott Fitzgerald in that home? Imagine what was shared by the “rich and famous” in those dreamy rooms!! Amazing detail in the original design of the home. She has been gently cared for and loved well. True to her southern charm this Lady has been a genteel hostess to those bygone celebrities of the “Golden Age.” Stars did fall on Alabama in her youth!

  2. Although this place needs some patching, scraping, and repainting it draws me. I like it. Even though I’m not crazy about wallpaper I could live with these. But the baths need some updating or a good scouring.

  3. What on earth is up with the microwave/hood combo installed under the copper hood and over a cooktop too wide for the microwave. This is what you call a “Frankensteined” project! LOL
