About This 1927 The Ford Mansion For Sale In Perrysburg Ohio

Steeped in Jacobean Revival Legacy, The Ford Mansion (built by Toledo industrialist George Ross Ford in the 1920’s and listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is in the gated community of “The Hamlet” which overlooks the serenity of the Maumee River.

The home has retained its architectural authenticity (an exterior embellished with carved limestone and an intricate Flemish brick pattern) which showcases the unparalleled quality of materials and workmanship. As you enter the estate, dramatic impressions start with the original hand-carved trim and uniquely carved plater ceiling in the living room. The red gum wood paneled dining room; a ship’s room replicating the hull of a ship with lighted portholes, a mast and curved doors; eight bedrooms; eight full bathrooms and two half baths; seven fireplaces; kitchen with river view; handsomely developed lower level; and a tunnel to the five-car garage are a few of the mansion’s highlights.

84’ boat dock area. The Hamlet community provides access to the river, has tennis and paddle tennis courts, and maintains a pool, pool house and warming house. Excerpt taken from The Wall Street Journal where The Ford Mansion was featured as “House of the Week.”

  1. I love the house. But the staging with the modern furniture does not do it justice, and looks completely out of place.

  2. I love the architecture, but it is too much home at 11,500 sf for today’s lifestyle. Also too much home for its skimpy half acre lot. Sadly, there’s more. This home is located about one-half block from the Ohio Turnpike, which crosses the river right there. Finally, the real estate taxes at about $150,000 are a real killer. I do love the interior public rooms, which are gorgeous. Also the exterior Flemish brickwork is spectacular.

  3. I wondered why it was a little less than a million and I think Carl explained it, but that house is absolutely gorgeous. Love those floors and all that woodwork, the stairs and the windows! And the idea of an underground tunnel leading to the garages! Now, if I could just bring it to my home state and plop it down on many acres on a hilltop….

  4. Is the home zoned for commercial use? Would the taxes be lowered if the buyer(s) picked it up for $800,000?
I just purchased a 1925 home on the Downie River in California and can only imagine the upkeep for this beautiful home. The paneling alone not to mention the staircases would demand a lot of maintenance.
It does appear to be in good condition, what a wonderful showcase of great architecture.

  5. Hmm is anyone else having problems with the pictures on this blog loading? I’m trying to determine if its a problem on my end or if it’s the blog. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
