About This 1908 Abandoned Mansion In Greenwood Mississippi

Built in the early 1900s by Greenwood businessman and mayor, Stage Marye, this grand home was once one of the finest in the Delta, and could be once again. Its design was inspired by the many showboats that once sailed the waters of the Yazoo and mighty Mississippi. The interior features beautiful woodwork, ornate mantels, solid oak doors with egg and dart trim, and hardwood floors. A private, three room suite upstairs has casement windows that open up for a sweeping view of the Yazoo River.

  1. What does the cursive writing on the wall say? I can see the dates but unfortunately the words are too small to see.

    • If you open the image in a new tab, the writing is a little easier to read, although not completely. This is a transcription I made by looking at the image in a new tab:

“According to Mr. Will [Kimbrough?] of [?] the old Judge Kimbrough home on [River?] Road was built in 1908 – and [?] [building?] finished this house – therefore, we assume that the [Maryre?] family probably began this house [during?] 1910 – [then?] [Grand?] Boulevard in North Greenwood was begun by the [?] around 1910. Mrs. Thelma [?] [?illette?] March 24, 1957”

  2. The exterior is so impressive and beautiful. Hope they can keep the windows and restore the interior to its former glory. I thought there would have been more crown moldings and details inside. Yes to see the finished results would be great
